Secretary’s End Of Season Report   20/05/08

Thank you to all the Mangers, Coaches and Officers of the club for all their support throughout the 2007/2008 season, which has now finally ended. Whilst you are all having a well deserved break from football, my job continues by attending various League meetings and getting the teams and players registered in their appropriate Leagues ready for the start of the season 2008/2009.

It would be a great help, if parents and players would make themselves available when their team Manager requests that the ‘Signing On’ forms are needed to be completed. Your Team Manager will advise you of the signing on fee for the season at that time. If the player is signing on to the U13, U14 and U16 teams, you will need to have 2 recent passport photographs attached to the signing on card, so it would be useful if you could get the photographs taken as soon as possible (white background, no hats, etc). ALL players in ALL the teams are required to attach a photocopy of their birth certificate also.

I would be grateful if all parents/carers could follow these guidelines and be prepared, as being disorganised may jeopardise the team being registered. I wish you all a good rest from football and hopefully a nice hot, relaxing summer.

Jacqui (MAYFC Secretary)

Quiz Night - Saturday 2nd February   10/01/08

The Quiz was attended by 151 people including children of all ages. The winning team was ‘Baker Dozen (U13’s) who won a big bottle of champers, and last position went to Rave (mixed U14’s and U16’s) who won a wooden spoon for their efforts.

According to the feedback that I have now had from everybody, about 98% of those attending were happy with the entrance fee, (although this will be reviewed for the children in future) and all seemed to enjoy themselves.

The grand total raised for the evening was £456.00 which of course will all go to the Club to help with your child’s football experience. Finally, may I extend a very big thank you to everybody that attended and especially the all the Social Secs for their sterling efforts.

Explanation of 2007/8 Pitch allocation   12/11/07

It has come to the committee’s attention that some parents and players may be unaware of the club’s reasoning behind the decision to play our 11-a-side matches out of Learoyd Road on Canford Heath. I therefore thought it would be worthwhile writing to you to explain the background to this decision.

In March 2007 Dorset County and Bournemouth FA’s directed all clubs that all grounds used for football matches for the 2007/8 season should have changing facilities and toilets available. Unfortunately in the case of Merley 1st School, these facilities are not available to us. This meant that, while we could use the pitches for training purposes, matches could not be played there.

Therefore, as a result of the FA’s ruling, it was necessary to find alternative local grounds where these facilities were available before the start of the 2007/8 season in September.

Despite the relatively short amount of time available the committee made extensive enquires to try and find alternative local pitches. Unfortunately our enquiries found that these were already being used by other clubs and there was no regular spare capacity with the exception of Learoyd Road which had recently been vacated by Dexter Sports.

This effectively gave us two options:
1) To be designated on a weekly basis any free pitch within the Poole Borough or
2) Have a regular home pitches at Learoyd Road on Canford Heath

At that time it was recognised that with other clubs looking for grounds with the required facilities and any significant delay in our decision could have resulted in the loss of Option 2.

Therefore an extraordinary meeting was called during which the team managers and officers of the club agreed unanimously that the Learoyd Road option was the best way forward for the coming season. This meant that all home 11-a side matches would be played at Learoyd Road while the mini teams would remain in Merley at Fenner’s Field.

Obviously this was not the club’s preferred option but did mean that the younger players would remain in Merley while the older age groups would be all together at Learoyd Road.

Going forward the club is committed to bringing all Merley Allendale YFC home fixtures closer to Merley and a sub-committee has already been formed to look at the club’s best options for next season and beyond.

Under 16s Get Praised   8/10/07

Jacqui (Club Secretary) had a telephone call from the Referee for the U16's home game played on Sunday 7th October '07, against Lymington Sprites at KGV Playing Fields. The Referee (Rob Kingston) wanted "to praise the attitude of the Merley Allendale team, Coaches/Manager and supporters." He stated "they were a pleasure to referee, a fantastic bunch of lads and looks forward to refereeing their games again. They are a credit to your Club". On behalf of Merley Allendale YFC, thank you and well done U16s!!

Goalkeeper Training   6/10/07

This is a photo of some of the Merley Goalkeepers and Reserve goalkeepers whose took up the chance to have goalkeeper training sessions with Neil Moss (AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper) and Robbie Yates (Junior Cherries Coach) and other AFC Bournemouth coaches. Jacqui was fortunate enough to arrange this training after discussions with Neil and Robbie, and most boys have been attending for the last 6 weeks and will continue to do so. All boys who attend have put in a tremendous amount of effort and commitment, and it should be recognised that the training is pretty tough and structured, with only those who show full commitment being given this continuous opportunity. Well done boys!
